I would like to purchase a home. Is there a goverment program to help people to purchase a home. And with the value of homes going down how is that going to effect buyers.

It sounds like you are looking for a grant…

Contact a realtor and ask if they know of any in your area, as different states/counties/cities have their own thing.

Also, there should be a 8k credit for first time homebuyers during 2009 coming down the pike which can help you.

The Government is now helping those who already have a Mortgage payment and are having troubles paying it off. It’s called re-working the contract with the banks. Government is working with the banks to lower current Mortgage payments. However, for an initial buyer - the idea is silly.

Part of what got us in this mess, in the first place, is people who wanted to buy homes out of their price range, when they couldn’t afford it. I agree with the above post: What year you living in??
